Arctic Life Love
Arctic Life Love. Finally the day has come. I've been dreaming about writing a blog for years but every time I've started one the problem seemed to be that I didn't have a clear thought of what the theme should be. Now that my life has found its right path I decided to make my plans and dreams come true. So, Arctic Life Love is a blog and a creative journal about our life. As some of you know we live our dream in the Finnish Lapland surrounded by amazing arctic sled dogs, wild and pure nature, family and friends, creativity and entrepreneurship. I'm so glad you found your way here!
"We both are born and raised here in the Northern Finland and living in the arctic region surrounded by the 8 amazing seasons and the wilderness is in our blood."
Who are we?
Our small family consists of me, my husband Jussi and our furry children aka our 30 sled dogs, both Alaskan and Siberian huskies. We both are born and raised here in the Northern Finland and living in the arctic region surrounded by the 8 amazing seasons and the wilderness is in our blood. We are passionate about the outdoor lifestyle and living our life as sustainably as possible.
Many years back we both moved to Rovaniemi to study. Our journey together started on 2017 when we met and got engaged. Two years later in 2019 we got married and it is safe to say that I've found a partner who shares the same wild soul than I do. Today we are both entrepreneurs. My husband works full time with our dogs, running a small husky safari for travellers called Shaman Huskies and I'm a creative entrepreneur, doing mainly photography, filming, creative digital design, other media related work and more. I also have my own ecological clothing brand called VALOTUS. In addition to that I spend my free time helping out Jussi at Shaman Huskies. Our hobbies are of course related to nature and outdoors. I myself love exploring the wild photographing nature and backcountry skiing. Jussi hunts game, goes fishing and enjoys his time in the nature. And all this we usually do together. Our most greatest shared passion is dog mushing, running our dogs and participating in long distance competitions with them. That is the lifestyle that brought us together in the first place. We both love it and that's how we want our future to look like.
"Our definite future goal is to build a self-sufficient and sustainable home for us and our dogs in a deep connection with the nature around us."
A new start
This is the most exciting part of our life in the near future. After years of searching we found and bought an old log house last October from a small village called Meltaus, in the northern area of Rovaniemi. The house itself doesn't have any electricity or running water and is located in the middle of forest without any neighbours in sight. Since the winter came just week after we bought the house we didn't have time to fix it so now our home is waiting for us to move in when the snow has melted and the summer arrives.
The upcoming summer will definitely be busy; fixing the house, building the new beautiful kennel site for our dogs and enjoying the freedom and our peaceful hideout and the forests around it. At the moment we still live in a temporary accommodation and our dogs live at the Shaman Huskies' kennel. I cannot even tell how excited we are that this living situation is finally going to change soon and we can start living our life to the fullest without any complicated arrangements.
Our definite future goal is to build a self-sufficient and sustainable home for us and our dogs in a deep connection with the nature around us. Our plan is to grow our own food as much as possible, hunt the meat we eat and fish the food to our table. We have our own natural spring just on the backyard so the Mother Earth has provided us with the most cleanest and healthiest water on the planet. We were so lucky that we found this piece of arctic paradise.
So to say, Arctic Life Love will be all about our lifestyle above the Arctic; building our home, training and competing with our sled dogs, working, creating and living sustainably in connection with the nature. Furthermore, I'm planning to start making vlogs after the winter as a part of my creative workflow so you will get even more diverse perspective on our life. Welcome aboard!
Life is the best, enjoy!
